Wash/Prep
The Wash or Prep stages of a detail include all the products required to wash and decontaminate your cars paint (and other areas) in preparation for polishing.
Top Tips:
- Minimise Contact
- Analyse Conditions
- No Shortcuts
Minimise Contact: there is no such thing as good contact with your cars paint. Anything from brushing your clothes against the cars paint or using the wrong wash methods to claying can inflict marring and swirling. Quality wash mitts and microfibre towels reduce this risk considerably when compared with car wash brushes and sponges.
Analyse Conditions: Heat, cold and many other variables will influence how you approach a detailing situation and what products you will use. For instance; if a car has just parked, the brakes and engine bay will be red hot. It's always best to ensure it is cool first. Altenatively, in Winter water can freeze underfoot. Make your detailing products work for you, safely.
No Shortcuts: each stage has a purpose. In training we often refer to following the correct steps as being like a cheat code. If you take your time and make sure each step is done, you'll get the best results, every time!
